The operation was jointly conducted by the National Police Department's Special Ops Team and gendarmerie units. The 21 suspects were detained last week on charges of aiding the PKK in carrying out an attack in Çukurca in which 24 soldiers were killed and seven others injured. The suspects were questioned by a prosecutor. Six were released, while 15 others were sent to a Van court where they were arrested and sent to jail pending trial.
In another operation carried out against the PKK, three suspects were detained on Sunday in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. After testifying to the police, the detainees appeared in court, where two suspects were arrested.
According to a statement released by the Diyarbakır Governor's Office, the suspects were members of the PKK's Self-Defense Units (ÖSB). They are accused of aiding and abetting the organization, creating agitation during public demonstrations and provoking participants to attack security forces. They reportedly received bomb training in PKK camps abroad.
Police also seized laptops, flash drives and a large number of documents supposedly belonging to the terrorist PKK. (Cihan)
