Quake shakes buildings in Indonesia's capital

Written By THA on Monday, 4 June 2012 | 13:09

A strong earthquake caused tall buildings to sway in Indonesia's capital. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the preliminary magnitude of Monday's temblor at 6.1. It hit 121 kilometers southwest of West Java province's coast at a depth of around 24 kilometers.

Indonesia has frequent earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin. (JAKARTA - The Associated Press)
