Turkish transportation minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday that the government was planning to open a tender for the construction of a third airport in Istanbul. Turkish Transport Minister said that Istanbul's Ataturk Airport was working 50 percent more than it was supposed to, thanks to recent renovations and capacity rehabilitations at the airport.
Yildirim stated reporters that they would direct some flights to some other airports, and we will provide more opportunities to scheduled flights.
Yildirim said all those were short or medium term measures that would relieve traffic at the airport.
He also noted that they would open a tender for construction of a third airport in Istanbul within this year. (Cihan)
